Milos Forman to preside over Marrakech international film festival
RABAT (AFP) — Czech movie director Milos Forman will preside over the seventh Marrakech international film festival to be held in December, the organizers announced Friday.
Forman won the Oscar twice for his films "Amadeus" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."
The festival will spotlight Egypt, which marks a century of film-making this year.
The official selection of festival movies will be announced in the middle of November.
Polish filmmaker Roman Polanski headed last year's festival jury.

HRH Prince Moulay Rachid presides over meeting of the Board of Directors
Marrakech, September 2, 2007 – On the morning of Sunday, September 2nd, 2007, His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, President of Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation, chaired meeting of the board of directors of Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation.
During this meeting highlights of this year festival were discussed, in addition to dealing with the foundation’s activities in past years and future efforts.
The foundation issued a statement in which it asserted that the 7th annual Marrakech International Film Festival is due to start on December 7 through 15, 2007.
Additionally, official statement of foundation indicated that festival’s new web site will be launched from September 10, accessible on the address: www.festivalmarrakech.info.
Thanks to His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid’s graceful efforts along with his strategic directions, this festival takes place simultaneously in city of Marrakech and stays at the forefront of industry developments.
His Royal Highness is longing to bring the best cinematic selections from around the world to heart of Morocco – city of Marrakech - for audiences to enjoy, as well as to showcase Moroccan and international talents.

Le cinéma égyptien à l'honneur à la 7e édition
Le Festival international du film de Marrakech (FIFM), présidé par SAR le Prince Moulay Rachid, rendra un hommage au cinéma égyptien, lors de sa 7e édition, qui se tiendra du 7 au 15 décembre prochain.
Dans une déclaration à la MAP, le directeur du Centre cinématographique marocain (CCM) et vice-président de la Fondation du FIFM, Noureddine Saïl, qui vient d'effectuer une visite de deux jours au Caire, a indiqué que près de 90 cinéastes égyptiens seront conviés à cette manifestation qui coïncide avec la célébration du centenaire du cinéma égyptien.
Il a précisé que cette édition verra la projection d'une sélection de 40 grands films égyptiens retraçant les différentes étapes du cinéma de ce pays, dont le plus ancien est "L'Hymne de l'espoir", tourné dans les années 30 du siècle dernier avec la participation de la diva Oum Kalthoum.
Dans cette sélection, figure également "Imarat Yacoubian" (l'immeuble Yacoubian), le plus récent film interprété par le célèbre comédien Adel Imam.
Ce dernier long métrage, qui a connu un franc succès et remporté plusieurs prix, fera l'objet d'un hommage spécial lors de ce 7e FIFM et ce, en présence des principaux acteurs, du réalisateur, du producteur, de l'écrivain et du staff technique du film.
Lors de sa visite en Egypte, qui s'inscrit dans le cadre des préparatifs du festival, M. Saïl a tenu des réunions notamment avec le ministre égyptien de la Culture, Farouq Hosni, le directeur général du Centre national du cinéma, Ali Abou Chadi et plusieurs professionnels du secteur cinématographique en Egypte.
Dans ses éditions de 2005 et de 2006, le FIFM avait rendu hommage respectivement au cinéma espagnol et italien.

His Royal Highness announced his intention to continue to standpoint MIFF to reveal new talents by presenting feature films of quality, which contribute to the evolution of the motion picture arts.
His Royal Highness voiced deep desire to increase the Moroccan audience for international cinema through an extensive presentation of new innovative films.
His Royal Highness adds to bolster celebration of the cinema of the past, present and future through retrospectives, tributes and “carte blanche” to leading figures of cinema.
Furthermore, His Royal Highness pledged to provide a relaxed and comfortable setting for useful contacts between Moroccan and foreign industry people, in the renowned resort of Marrakech.
The 7th Marrakech International Film Festival will take place in Morocco from December 7 to 15, 2007 organised under the Royal Presidency of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid by FMIFF.
With His Royal Highness hands-on-approach, festival will also help increase understanding and spread awareness of the cross-cultural civilization and way of life to a wide audience through the effective intermediate of film.
